History was made at the Rio today as Event 2 broke the record for number of entrants in a preliminary event. The $1,500 buy-in attracted a minefield of amateurs and pros vying for the first No Limit Hold'em bracelet of the Series.

Day 1a of the tournament brought in 2,046 players and Day 1b is only 450 away from selling out and bringing the entire field to almost 4,000. The record was previously held by another $1,500 NLHE tournament at the 2007 WSOP and the field is also larger than the 2004 WSOP Main Event. By dinner break there was 460 players left with the chipleader sitting on 63,000.
At the time of this posting the money bubble had burst in the $10,000 World Championship PLHE Event. With only 27 players remaining Eli Elezra still holds the chiplead with 645,000 and could take home his second bracelet.
